On Demand: G/T Pick-Six: Kaplan's Icons of Depth and Complexity: Applying the Icons of ETHICS and BIG IDEAS to Content and Instruction to Differentiate Instruction for G/T Students

Thank you for choosing to complete this one-hour online course. The "PICK SIX" options began late spring/early summer and offers you even more variety and choice in completing your annual six-hour GT Update. Each of these "Pick Six" one-hour courses counts as one hour of credit/PD toward you six-hour state mandated hours.  PLEASE remember to print your certificates after completing the course. You will find your certificate ready to print in your Region 8 ESC teacher account. You can complete the short survey and then print your certificate.

This one-hour course serves as an introduction to Sandra Kaplan's Icons of Depth and Complexity and specifically the application of the icons ETHICS and BIG IDEAS to units/lessons you teach during the school year. The primary objective of the framework is to provide students with challenging learning opportunities by applying Depth and Complexity to the study of the core curriculum. The icons of ETHICS and BIG IDEAS are two of the eleven prompts/icons used to initiate a more advanced and extensive understanding of subject matter for all learners. The icons should be thought of as a verb or lens of learning that will activate learning of content using higher-level thinking skills. The iconic prompts of Depth and Complexity challenge learners of all ages.
