Contrary to popular belief, children do not "memorize" words in order to build their sight vocabularies. Join us as we learn how the reading brain maps sounds to print through orthographic mapping. This workshop will show how phonemic awareness, phoneme/grapheme mapping, incorporating decodable text and encoding can lead students toward automatic, accurate recognition of words.
