Mathematical problem-solving does not come naturally to many students, and as educators, we must provide them with opportunities to develop a deeper understanding of the context and structure of the problem itself. In this 3-hour virtual session, participants will identify actions of proficient problem solvers and build an understanding of the following:

• mathematical language routines that compliment the use of a heuristic
• formative assessment strategies that focus on making student thinking visible
• five practices that support mathematical discourse
