The 'How To' Series: How to Read, Respond To, & Write (Fill in the Genre)
Across Genres: Laying the Groundwork for Critical Reading and Writing Processes

Teaching secondary students to read, respond to, and write with the characteristics of each genre is essential for understanding and applying the TEKS. Sessions in this series examine the specificity and assessment nature of each genre while providing ideas and strategies that allow students to get the most out of their RLA experience.

Important Session Information:

Begin the school year by ensuring that students understand the purpose of each genre and the craft "moves" that authors use to accomplish their purpose. This knowledge assists students as they annotate and analyze works - and then transfer skills to their own writing. Participants will also understand the depth of questioning needed in the classroom to mirror the State's level of expectations. This session will provide teachers an overview of what the year holds, while setting up student expectations for solid Tier 1 instruction.
