Social Studies: Making Historical Connections with Cause and Effect for Teaching Manifest Destiny and its Impact on the Development of the United States for Grades 7 and 8

The story of westward expansion and Manifest Destiny is blended throughout both U.S. History as well as Texas History.  Participants in this workshop will develop engaging lessons that will help students bridge content from seventh grade Texas History into the more comprehensive Manifest Destiny unit(s) of Eighth Grade U.S. History.  We will also explore effective strategies for implementing STAAR redesign questions into seventh grade instruction.  Students will not only be more prepared for U.S. History as it relates to westward expansion, but they will also be more prepared for success on the STAAR redesign.
