Texas teachers who service GT students are required to get their six-hour GT update annually.
This year's update focuses on the lens of GT for elementary grades (K-5). Participants will work through student performance scenarios that will help them better identify potential GT students, understand the referral process for GT, gain perspective on the types of assessments (both quantitative and qualitative) used to identify GT students, and explore the types of learning activities that can add depth and complexity (rigor) for GT students in the classroom. Also covered, will be the role of the GT committee and how teachers might participate as well as learn some of the basic pedagogy and best practices for GT students. Emphasis will also be placed on the effective use of the Texas Performance Standards Project website as a differentiation tool for GT students.
