Virtual PD - Trauma and Disruptive Behaviors

Trauma can affect learning by disrupting memory, attention and thinking. Students exposed to trauma often display behaviors rooted in survival responses that can appear to be disrespectful.  This session gives educators trauma-aware strategies for the classroom and explains how the learning brain differs from the survival brain.

Important Session Information:

The negative impacts of stress and trauma can disrupt a student's behavior, and emotional wellbeing, academic success, and health if left unaddressed.  Disruptive behaviors are not always disrespectful but distress in disguise.  In this virtual session, educators are given information and strategies to respond to trauma related behaviors with understanding, not punishment.
