Bibliotherapy is an effective strategy for guiding gifted teens because it uses carefully selected literature to help them process complex emotions, develop self-awareness, and navigate social and identity challenges that often accompany advanced cognitive development. Gifted adolescents frequently experience heightened sensitivity, perfectionism, and a sense of isolation from peers; through relatable characters and situations, books provide a safe, indirect way to explore these experiences without the pressure of direct confrontation. By engaging with stories, teens can see their own struggles reflected and normalized, gain new perspectives, and develop coping strategies, all while strengthening critical thinking and empathy. Ultimately, bibliotherapy supports both the intellectual and social-emotional needs of gifted learners by connecting their advanced reading abilities with meaningful personal growth.
