This session will cover an introduction to the Math Research Based Instructional Strategies (RBIS) and how they work collectively to build a solid foundation for mathematics instruction.
- Depth and Coherence of Key Concepts and Procedures: Teach math like a connected, coherent story within and across grade levels while going deep on the most important concepts and procedures for the grade level.
- Conceptual Understanding, Procedural Fluency, and Automaticity: Develop conceptual understanding, procedural fluency, and automaticity as an independent and iterative process in pursuit of mathematical proficiency and efficiency.
- Effective Explicit Instruction for Novice Learners: Provide effective explicit instruction on mathematical concepts and procedures for novice learners to build accurate understanding.
- Effective Practice for Mathematical Independence: Facilitate effective student practice with feedback on concepts and procedures that have been explicitly taught in pursuit of developing mathematical independence.
