SB2124 (TEC 28.029) created a required advanced math pathway for a specific group of middle school students who met the criteria on their grade 5 STAAR Exam. The implementation of Advanced Middle School Math has left many administrators and teachers with more questions than answers. How do I determine who qualifies for Advanced Middle School Math? Can students be removed from the advanced math pathway? How do I determine what to teach and when to teach it? Are there TEKS and/or resources that I can use?
If you are teaching Advanced Middle School Math next year and would like to learn the answer to these questions and more, come join me for a day of acquainting yourself with all things Advanced Middle School Mathematics including an overview of program requirements, the flow of the material throughout the year, pacing, and potential ideas for resources. This will be a day of both information and collaboration. Bring your computer, your resources, and a growth mindset for a great day of preparing for the coming year.
