Built to Defend: Sessions for Neurodivergence
Counseling as a Related Service: Ethics, Evidence, and Execution

Designed for school psychologists and educational diagnosticians, this targeted series strengthens evaluation practices across counseling as a related service, autism, and ADHD in school settings.

Participants will explore eligibility, service delivery, and progress monitoring for counseling, apply a qualitative, strengths-based approach to autism evaluation using the MIGDAS-2, and examine comprehensive, data-driven practices for ADHD identification. Emphasis is placed on integrating multiple data sources, considering exclusionary factors, and developing clear, defensible conclusions that translate into effective supports and services.

Important Session Information:

This session will explore the unique nature of Special Ed (IEP) counseling and how it differs from the general counseling offered to all students by the school counselor.  Evaluation instruments will be used to identify eligibility, develop IEP goals, group vs. individual counseling, monitor progress, and determine when dismissal from counseling services is appropriate.

Objective:
By the end of this session, participants will be able to identify and implement the evaluation process and the implementation of services for Counseling as a Related Service.
