Reading in Real Time: Teaching During-Reading Strategies
Share
Struggling readers often falter not because they cannot decode words, but because they lack the tools to monitor and repair comprehension while reading. This session unpacks the Metacognition and Response strands of the RLA TEKS and translates them into explicit instructional moves teachers can use during reading. Participants will learn how to model thinking through structured think-alouds, teach sentence-level unpacking, support fluency and syntax processing, and build student capacity to respond meaningfully to text. Through hands-on practice and studio work, educators will design TEKS-aligned during-reading routines that accelerate comprehension without lowering rigor.
