Be an Expert Evaluator Series: From Data to Decisions
Expert Session #4: Triangulating Data for SLD Decision Making: Patterns, Properties, and Integrated Data Analysis

Are you an Educational Diagnostician or School Psychologist that wants to be an expert in your field?

Move beyond collecting data to truly using it. This four-part series is designed for evaluators ready to sharpen their thinking, strengthen their analysis, and make more confident, defensible decisions. Across sessions, we’ll explore how to leverage AI responsibly in work sample analysis, select assessments with intention, transform score reports into meaningful student stories, and triangulate data for clear SLD decision-making. Each session is practical, thought-provoking, and grounded in real-world application—so you leave with tools you can use immediately to elevate your evaluations.

Important Session Information:

Effective SLD decision-making requires more than isolated scores or single data points. This session focuses on triangulating data using the 2025 SLD Guidance Document and the Handbook as a foundation for defensible eligibility decisions. Participants will examine how to apply integrated data analysis to bring together intervention data, classroom performance, work samples, observations, and norm-referenced measures into a coherent pattern of evidence. We will also discuss an often-overlooked issue: every piece of data has properties, and some sources are more trustworthy, stable, and instructionally meaningful than others. Through guided examples, attendees will learn how triangulation strengthens confidence in conclusions, helps identify patterns over time, and prevents overreliance on any single measure. The session emphasizes disciplined thinking, weighing the quality of evidence, and ensuring that eligibility decisions reflect a preponderance of integrated, meaningful data rather than isolated findings.&
