Be an Expert Evaluator Series: From Data to Decisions
Expert Session #1: AI-Assisted Work Samples Analysis: Ethics and Practice

Are you an Educational Diagnostician or School Psychologist that wants to be an expert in your field?

Move beyond collecting data to truly using it. This four-part series is designed for evaluators ready to sharpen their thinking, strengthen their analysis, and make more confident, defensible decisions. Across sessions, we’ll explore how to leverage AI responsibly in work sample analysis, select assessments with intention, transform score reports into meaningful student stories, and triangulate data for clear SLD decision-making. Each session is practical, thought-provoking, and grounded in real-world application—so you leave with tools you can use immediately to elevate your evaluations.

Important Session Information:

Work samples are one of the most powerful and overlooked sources of learning data in special education. This session shows how AI can support, not replace, professional judgment when analyzing student writing, math, and classroom tasks. Participants will learn practical, research-informed procedures for identifying error patterns, task demands, skill gaps, and instructional mismatches using authentic student work. We will also address ethical use of AI, including privacy, bias, transparency, and maintaining evaluator responsibility in decision-making. Through guided examples, you will see how thoughtful work-sample analysis can move beyond surface-level mistakes and lead to clearer, more defensible impact statements that connect student performance to standards, classroom expectations, and eligibility decisions. You will leave with practical tools you can use immediately in your evaluations.
