Vocabulary & Knowledge Building: Beyond Word Lists

Vocabulary instruction must move beyond isolated word lists to intentional knowledge building. In this session, participants explore research-informed vocabulary routines aligned to the RLA TEKS, specifically morphological knowledge and analysis as it applies to disciplinary language. Teachers will learn how to select high-leverage academic vocabulary, embed word study within complex texts, and reduce surface-level activities that do not transfer to comprehension. Participants will leave with practical routines that promote durable word learning and support reading growth across grade levels.
