The Curious Year Planning Series...
Connections that Matter: Designing Cross-Genre Thinking

Across grade levels 6–12, literacy classrooms often drift toward compliance, over-scaffolding, and formulaic responses. What if we redesigned the year around curiosity and joy instead?

Important Session Information:

When students synthesize ideas across texts, true thinking emerges. In this session, teachers will design cross-genre units that emphasize connection-making, thematic exploration, and transfer of understanding. Participants will build essential questions that stretch across literary, informational, and argumentative texts and design writing tasks that blend analysis and creativity. This session focuses on helping students see patterns, contradictions, and big ideas across texts—cultivating intellectual agility and joyful synthesis
