Across grade levels 6–12, literacy classrooms often drift toward compliance, over-scaffolding, and formulaic responses. What if we redesigned the year around curiosity and joy instead?
Argument does not have to mean rigid structure and formulaic responses. In this session, teachers will redesign argumentative instruction as intellectual play—where students wrestle with ideas, explore multiple perspectives, and craft nuanced claims. Participants will create essential questions that invite debate and design writing pathways that encourage risk-taking and voice. Through joyful rhetorical exploration, teachers will build units that strengthen reasoning while maintaining student engagement and agency.
