The intended audience for this training is administrators who participate as members of the
admission, review, and dismissal (ARD) committee as the local education agency (LEA)
representative and/or who will monitor and appraise special education teachers. The training
will outline their responsibility for ensuring an appropriate IEP for a student. The IEP includes
present levels of academic achievement and functional performance (PLAAFP) statement that
identifies the student’s strengths and critical areas of need and ambitious, appropriate,
measurable annual goals. Administrators ensure special education teachers provide accurate
data collection and progress monitoring to families.
In order to ensure increased achievement and access to the general curriculum for students
with disabilities, an IEP process called a “Standards-Based IEP” has been recommended as a
best practice for achieving academic goals.
This session will discuss the following topics:
• Foundational concepts of a SB IEP process
• Student data and the full and individual evaluation (FIE)
• Present levels of academic achievement and functional performance (PLAAFP)
• Measurable annual goals
• Data collection and monitoring
