A safety plan can be a valuable tool to help those in crisis.  This training guides participants in developing a safety plan in collaboration with students who are at high risk for suicide. Steps to create a safety plan, including identifying warning signs, coping strategies, and trusted resources will be discussed.

Important Session Information:

Safety planning is a proactive approach to ensure well-being and reduce the risk of harm, particularly in situations involving potential danger or crisis.  This training prepares school mental health professionals and counselors to help students to build a safety plan.  We will review the steps in building a safety plan tailored to an individual's specific needs that includes identifying warning signs, developing coping strategies, and listing support contacts and safe places. Safety Planning is an evidenced based brief intervention.
