Orthographic Mapping: All Words Want to Be Sight Words
Grades K-5
Share
Contrary to popular belief, children don’t simply "memorize" words to build their sight vocabulary. In this session, we’ll explore how the reading brain maps sounds to print through orthographic mapping. Learn how phonemic awareness, phoneme/grapheme mapping, decodable text, and encoding work together to help students achieve automatic and accurate word recognition. After all, all words want to be sight words when they grow up!
