Empowering Community Engagement in FCS and CTE






Presenter: Dr. Cindy Miller
This interactive workshop will provide FCS & CTE educators with strategies and resources for increasing community engagement and addressing relevant issues impacting students and families. Participants will learn how to identify needs within their school and local community and develop responsive projects that leverage the information learned in FCS courses. Workshop highlights include: 1) Exploring ways to partner with community organizations, agencies, and stakeholders; 2) Developing meaningful service learning projects; 3) Using data to identify priority issues affecting students and families; 4) Creating empowering lessons and activities that allow students to make an impact on community problems; 5) Engaging families and community members by sharing program outcomes and student work; 6) Building supportive relationships with community leaders and partners; and 7) Utilizing community engagement to increase visibility.
