Virtual PD - Suicide Prevention in Schools
Best Practices and Protocols for Suicide Prevention in Schools

In this workshop, participants will learn and practice skills in evidence-based suicide prevention and intervention strategies.  This will include protocols such as screening for risk, safety planning, connecting with parents/guardians, and supporting transitions and re-entry back to school after a suicide attempt or hospitalization.

Important Session Information:

Data indicates that 1 in 5 children in the U.S. show symptoms of mental health disorders each year and suicide is now the 2nd leading cause of death for children ages 10-24.  School staff are challenged to work with children and youth who experience mental health challenges.  This session will cover evidence-based best practices set out by the AWARE and Texas Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC) on the appropriate suicide prevention protocols to help school staff in serving students.
