Assistive Technology Day at East Texas Lighthouse for the Blind

According to the Assistive Technology Industry Association (ATIA), assistive technology (AT) can be defined as “products, equipment, and systems that enhance learning, working, and daily living for persons with disabilities.” The impact of AT on the lives of students with visual impairments is immeasurable. Its importance is demonstrated by the fact that Assistive Technology is one of the nine critical areas of the Expanded Core Curriculum (ECC). Appropriately utilizing AT can open a whole new world to our students that was previously inaccessible. It is vital that Teachers of Students with Visual Impairments (TSVIs) and Certified Orientation and Mobility Specialists (COMS) have knowledge of current AT products and solutions to instruct their students in this vital area of the ECC. To address this critical topic, Region 8 ESC and the East Texas Lighthouse for the Blind (ETLB) have partnered to present “AT Day at the ETLB!” Join us as the ETLB AT Team of Megan Aragon and Brittney Walters explore AT topics for individuals with visual impairments. Bring your “hot topics” in the area of AT for a Q&A time with the AT team. Browse your favorite AT vendors (such as Eschenbach, OrCam, and Hable) to explore available technologies. The ETLB will provide lunch for this event. Workshop credit is provided by ESC 8 for attendance at this event.
