The 'How To' Series: How to Read, Respond To, & Write (Fill in the Genre)
Across Genres Again: Making Those Connections

Teaching secondary students to read, respond to, and write with the characteristics of each genre is essential for understanding and applying the TEKS. Sessions in this series examine the specificity and assessment nature of each genre while providing ideas and strategies that allow students to get the most out of their RLA experience.

Important Session Information:

This semester - as we work across genres again - our goal will be to help students make connections. We have spent a great deal of time teaching how skills transfer when we read, respond to, and write in the different genres; now let's explore how to help students connect the skills to larger ideas. Students struggle with connections between texts on the STAAR test; our practices in class will set them up for success on test day!
