Science is a language of its own and can often be difficult for all students, including our emergent bilingual students, to fully understand.  Research shows that struggling students can benefit from a variety of well-designed vocabulary strategies.  Part of the day will be spent learning how to increase vocabulary comprehension through the use of TEKS-aligned science vocabulary word walls.  CATNIP's Word Walls will model how to engage students in learning academic language through the use of word walls and vocabulary cards.  Our Region 8 Bilingual/ESL team will also join us during this session to share a variety of emergent bilingual vocabulary strategies built to increase science content understanding.  Each participant will receive a set of TEKS-aligned science flashcards from CATNIP's Word Walls.

A supply fee of $40 will be charged to cover the cost of one grade level set of science flashcards.
