Sound Walls, Heart Words and Other Scientific Twists on Traditional Literacy Practices

Information about the science of teaching reading is in abundance these days. Much of this information has caused some concern that certain long-loved classroom literacy practices may need to be revised. This workshop will highlight two researched-based classroom practices new to many teachers: Sound Walls and Heart Words. These two practices will cause us to rethink and reimagine word walls and sight word instruction. Be prepared to step out of your comfort zone and grapple with the science!
