The Primary/Ancillary Examiner team approach to bilingual testing provides an alternative for school districts who have limited or no access to bilingual evaluation specialists. The Primary Examiner is an evaluation specialist who is not proficient in the examinee's primary language, but who is trained in the second language acquisition process, bilingual evaluation procedures, and interpretation of the test data. The Ancillary Examiner is a professional or para-educator with Spanish fluency and literacy skills, trained to administer tests in Spanish, but only while the primary examiner is present. The Ancillary Examiner can assist in the administration of the test instrument, but the Primary Examiner is responsible for the test interpretation and report writing. Primary and Ancillary Examiners will learn how to administer the tests as a team. Both Primary and Ancillary Examiners must attend the training to receive credit.
