The use of Math (Language) Structures is not new to Math Instruction. Nationwide, elementary teachers have received this information for many years as a best practice for their classrooms. Though the structures have never been seen as grade level specific, their use in the Secondary Math classrooms has been minimal, at best. In light of our recent academic losses due to the extenuating circumstances of classroom instruction during 2020 and 2021, educators are finding themselves more open to “new” practices to help students gain ground due to the resulting “COVID slide”. Join me in this Canvas housed online and self-paced course as we discover that these structures can be positive additions to a teacher’s instructional time to achieve that goal.
Structures to be explored are Review, Revise, and Refine, Co-Crafted Questions and Problems, Three Reads, and Problem Comparisons.
The course includes feedback and submissions that must be submitted prior to credit being awarded.
