The PEER program, at the Texas
A&M College of Veterinary Medicine & Biomedical Sciences, has
developed a FREE, student-centered, online curriculum connecting TEKS-aligned
middle school science and biology to one health (the interconnectedness of
humans, animals, and the environment). A preview of the curriculum is
available on the PEER YouTube channel: https://youtu.be/xd0JrwLL4VU . The
stand-alone modules focus on one health topics related to “Clinical Trials”,
“Ecology”, “Infectious Diseases & Vaccination”, “Stress”, and “Cell Biology”.
The curriculum promotes online teaching, blended instruction, or face-to-face
instruction. Each module contains pre and post-tests, essential knowledge,
backpack adventure stories, real science reviews, meet the scientists, and
interactive practice activities. Teachers can track pre and post-test scores
and view sections completed by students, including how much time was spent in
each section of the module.
