G/T Update for Administrators & Counselors

Texas law requires that educators providing services to gifted/talented students have the specific qualifications as stated in the Texas Administrative Code §89.2 .  School districts shall ensure that administrators and counselors who have authority for program decisions have a minimum of six hours of professional development that includes nature and needs of gifted/talented students and program options.

Important Session Information:

The 1/2 day GT Coordinator/Administrator meetings present opportunities for colleagues to collaborate and learn about updates from TEA as well as initiatives from Region 8.  Participants will engage in extensive research and understanding of the new Texas State Plan for GT students.  They will also have one-on-one opportunities to discuss issues with the GT consultants at Region 8.  The overarching goal is to give districts an opportunity to learn how they can become "exemplary" GT districts, using TAGT rubrics and the new state plan as a guide.  A 1/2 day afternoon session will be provided for coordinators/administrators to work independently on their service models and ask specific questions about their programs.  These 1/2 day meetings are ongoing throughout the year, and districts are strongly encouraged to send coordinators to the meetings.
