G/T Annual Six-Hour Update 2023-24: GT Through the Elementary Lens (K-5)

Texas teachers who service GT students are required to get their six-hour GT update annually.

This year's update focuses on the lens of GT for elementary grades (K-5) for social and emotional needs of GT students.  Participants will review the domains and characteristics of gifted/talented student and will then explore Dabrowski's Theory of Positive Disintegration and Personality Development as it relates to over-excitabilities among gifted learners.  Teachers will also review a personal testimony of a student who grew up with social and emotional needs and how she overcame obstacles both academic and societal.  Finally, teachers will read and reflect on a collection of research articles that discuss various aspects of advanced students' social and emotional needs and strategies to help them succeed both academically and socially.
