Woodcock-Munoz Language Survey III (WMLS III)
Dyslexia
Share
he Woodcock-Munoz Language Survey III (WMLS III) is a comprehensive assessment of listening, speaking, reading, and writing available in English and Spanish. The versatility of the tests allows it to be used by a variety of evaluators and for a variety of evaluation needs. This presentation will provide a brief overview of the WMLS III and highlight the many uses of the WMLS III. The presenters will demonstrate how the WMLS III can be used to assess language proficiency levels in English language learners and language dominance to determine which language an evaluation should be conducted. Additionally, the authors will discuss using the WMLS III as part of a comprehensive dyslexia evaluation for English and/or Spanish speaking students. Finally, using the WMLS III as part of an evaluation of dysgraphia.
Important Session Information:
Assessing dyslexia in students deemed English Language Learners (ELL) requires a different evaluation process. Consequently, the professional involved in the assessment, interpretation of assessment results, and identification of English Language Learners (ELL) is different than traditional assessment approaches and requires additional knowledge in second language acquisition. This workshop will provide a brief overview of second language acquisition and how dyslexia manifests differently in English Language Learners (ELL). The workshop will also highlight the WMLS III English and Spanish batteries and focus on the use within a dyslexia evaluation for ELL students.
