Supporting ELLS with Disabilities - Finding the root of the struggle?

This workshop will present an overview of characteristics of ELL and students with learning disabilities as well as present the audience with information regarding similarities and differences in ELL and students in Special Education.

This workshop will benefit teachers who are trying to determine supports, best practices, and assessment for students who have both labels of special education and ELL.

The presenter will also give an actual student case study where the audience will participate in a pre-referral meeting and make a determination of whether or not to continue with a referral to Special Education.

ELL's have one of the highest grade retention and dropout rates of all ethnic groups. In addition, other factors, including societal and systemic changes, build these students' learning experiences.
