Teaching Social Studies to ELLs
Teaching Social Studies to ELLs

Participants will have an opportunity to learn about explicit and practical guides to increase engagement and achievement in the social studies classroom.  The morning session will focus on strategies and activities that are scaffolded for the vast array of language proficiency levels found in classrooms and are designed to make content comprehensible for all students.

There will be a small piece focusing on strategies for identifying ELLs who may be Gifted/Talented or high-level learners.

The afternoon will give participants an opportunity to look at specific lessons/units in their respective curricula, with a focus on foldables and engagement pieces.  Teachers will have an opportunity to collaborate and interact with one another in developing lesson ideas and strategies that might work specifically for them.
